According to The Windows 7 Team Blog, Microsoft will release Windows 7 on October 22, 2009 just in time for the holiday season. There will be six versions of Windows 7; Starter Edition, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, Ultimate, and Home Basic. The price for each version hasn’t been released.
After working with the beta version and now with the RC, I’m looking forward to this release. I’ve been using XP because of all of the horror stories associated with Vista when it was released and I really like the way that 7 (or as some put it Vista RC2) manages memory, especially when you have multiple applications running.
Let’s hope that the RTM is as fast and stable as the RC is because the RC’s performance was noticeably different to me than the beta. And let’s hope that Microsoft prices it correctly. I’ve heard rumor that those with a legitimate license to Vista will be able to get an upgrade to 7 for free, but I can’t confirm that so if you have Vista, keep your fingers crossed!
