Backup And Restore Windows Home Server?

by MGD King Monday, December 21, 2009 9:12 PM

Back in June I set up a Windows Home Server (WHS) on my network out of the necessity of needing to backup the three machines that we have. Plus the laptop, with its paltry 20GB drive, just didn't have the space the kids needed for all of their pictures and music files so WHS just made too much sense given all that it does. The ability to store everyone's "My Documents" folder on the server plus the ability to share images, music, and videos on the network as well as a means to back up each machine daily were what sold me. I loved how easy it was to set up and how it basically took care of itself with little or no interaction required to keep things in order. And as an added bonus, the ability to log into the WHS from anywhere via a web interface made getting to our files painless when we're away from the house. Trust me, you don't know how much you would use that feature until you have it at your disposal! More...

Windows 7 Release Date Announced

by MGD King Wednesday, June 3, 2009 8:00 AM

According to The Windows 7 Team Blog, Microsoft will release Windows 7 on October 22, 2009 just in time for the holiday season. There will be six versions of Windows 7; Starter Edition, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, Ultimate, and Home Basic. The price for each version hasn’t been released.

After working with the beta version and now with the RC, I’m looking forward to this release. I’ve been using XP because of all of the horror stories associated with Vista when it was released and I really like the way that 7 (or as some put it Vista RC2) manages memory, especially when you have multiple applications running. Memorial Day

by MGD King Monday, May 25, 2009 7:50 AM

Memorial Day is regarded as the “unofficial beginning of summer”, but to me it’s a day where I can say thanks to all my service Brothers and Sisters who have given the ultimate price for this country. Yes, I know it’s cliché, but it fits because I wore that uniform for nearly 10 years and I am a Veteran of Desert Shield/Storm, so it’s something that I don’t take lightly. I may not talk about my military past much, but I wouldn’t have traded it for anything. Those 10 years helped shape me into what I am today, so thank you Veterans of the past, present, and future for standing up when called upon and defending freedom.

If I Was In Charge Of NASCAR

by MGD King Sunday, April 19, 2009 9:08 PM

Fox Sports Broadcaster Larry McReynolds stated that NASCAR needs to address a few issues and I couldn’t agree more. While I agree with changing the “Car of Tomorrow” (or COT as it’s been called) to make it more “racy”, and doing away with the Top 35 Owner Points rule which states that those car owners who are in the top 35 in standings automatically get into the race, I think there’s some things that need to change and if I was in charge of NASCAR, these are the changes I’d make. Who Is MGD King?

MGD KingA lot of people ask me what does MGD King mean? Well, it was a nickname given to me because I used to drink large quantities of Miller Genuine Draft. Someone mentioned to me that I was the King of MGD, and so it stuck.
